The journal

The journal

One chart a day, and what I read in it.

Every entry states the market type first, the bar I would have acted on, and what happened next — including the days the read was wrong, which are the ones worth keeping. Tagged with the digits it shows. No P&L, ever.

Placeholder content. These entries are written to show the shape of the journal, not to record real sessions. Replace them with actual reads before launch — see SPEC.md §4.1.

Range

The range never broke — it just looked like it did

Two failed breakouts an hour apart, and the tell was the same both times: the breakout bar had a body, and the bar after it did not.

What happened next
Faded the second one back to the middle of the range and it went nowhere for another two hours.

Breakout

Four trend bars at the open, then two hours of nothing

Strong open, four bull bars with almost no tails, and then the market stopped. The breakout was real; the follow-through never arrived.

What happened next
The High 1 triggered and did not run. After six overlapping bars it was a range again.

Breakout

The second leg came forty minutes late

First leg down was fast and I wanted the entry immediately. The bounce lasted nine bars, which is not a bounce, it is a second range.

What happened next
The second leg finally came and stopped two ticks above the first low. Late is not the same as wrong.

Range

A wedge nobody drew until it was over

Three pushes up, each smaller, and I did not see the shape until the third one failed. In real time it looked like a trend that kept resting.

What happened next
Three bear bars took out the whole structure and the always-in flipped down.

Breakout

Six bars down into the close

Six consecutive bear bars, bodies growing, the last one the biggest. The most convincing selling of the session and the worst place to sell.

What happened next
Bar seven closed back inside bar six with a long tail. Two-legged correction into the bell.

Range

I wanted the breakout. The chart wanted the range.

Wrote 'breakout' in my notes before the bar closed. It closed back inside, and I spent twenty minutes arguing with a chart that had already answered.

What happened next
Range held all session. The read was wrong from the first bar and the digit that catches it is zero.

Range

Double bottom, two ticks apart

Two lows two ticks apart with a clean bounce between them. The kind of thing that is obvious afterwards and ambiguous while the second low prints.

What happened next
Close above the intervening high triggered it; measured move came in near the projection and stalled.

Breakout

Three bear bars flipped my always-in mid-trade

Long from the High 1, comfortable, and then three bars in a row went the other way with bodies. The position stopped matching the chart.

What happened next
Flipped the read before the market flipped further. What happened next was another leg down.

Breakout

Counting bars instead of predicting them

No opinion at the open, just a count. Four bars up, pause, three more. By bar seven the move was crowded and the risk had changed sides.

What happened next
Stopped adding at six. The pullback that followed was deeper than the whole first leg.

Range

Breakout mode, and both sides failed

The range narrowed to the point where either side was a real breakout. Both went, both failed, inside two hours.

What happened next
Still a range at the close — a smaller one. Two failures is information, not bad luck.

Breakout

The follow-through bar that wasn't

Big breakout bar out of a four-hour range. The next bar was an inside bar with a tail on top, which is the whole answer.

What happened next
No entry taken. The move came back into the range by lunch.

Range

Two legs, and then a third

Textbook two-legged pullback, entry triggered, and then a third leg went straight through it. Two legs is the expectation, not the guarantee.

What happened next
Wrong, and the chart said so within four bars. The third leg is the tell that the trend had changed character.

Breakout

Trend channel line overshoot into the high

The third push poked through the channel line and closed back inside on the same bar. Long upper tail, poor close.

What happened next
That was the high of the session. The correction that followed had two clean legs.

Range

Nothing happened, and that was the read

Overlapping bars, no bar closing beyond the last, tails on both ends for three straight hours.

What happened next
Wrote it down and left it alone. A range you correctly do nothing in is still a read.

Breakout

High 2 after the High 1 failed

First pullback triggered and immediately stalled. The second attempt came four bars later, shallower, and went.

What happened next
Second entries in a strong trend are usually the better one. That was true here and it is not always true.

Breakout

Exhaustion bar at the low, and I sat on my hands

Largest bear bar of the day, closing near its high with a long lower tail, after a count of six.

What happened next
Did not fade it, did not join it. The two-legged bounce that followed made both choices look wrong at different times.
